Friends School of Atlanta Will Cut Energy Costs With Solar Power
Cherry Street Energy to Install, Own and Operate a Solar Power System at the School's Facility.
Friends School of Atlanta will take a significant step forward in its commitment to environmental stewardship by incorporating solar power at its facility. Installation of the innovative energy solution will begin this summer and will be done by power company Cherry Street Energy, which the school has entered into a [20]-year energy purchase agreement with.
Over the course of the agreement, the system is projected to create more than $150,000 in energy savings for the school. It will offset over 55 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually—equivalent to 10 homes electricity use or carbon sequestered by 55 acres of forest—and will generate approximately 25% of the facility's total energy needs.
"This project aligns with our school's values of stewardship and integrity," says Sean Dixon-Parker, Campus Stewardship Working Group Clerk. "By generating clean energy on our campus, we're not only reducing our environmental impact but also creating a living example of sustainability for our students."
The solar power system will be built, owned and maintained by Cherry Street Energy, and represents a significant capital investment into the school and renewable energy infrastructure. Through the energy agreement, Friends School of Atlanta can implement solar energy without upfront capital expenditure while securing substantial environmental and financial benefits, purchasing emission-free electricity from Cherry Street.
"Educational institutions play a crucial role in shaping our collective future, and this project demonstrates the school's leadership in both environmental action and fiscal responsibility,” says Michael Chanin, Founder and CEO of Cherry Street Energy. “By combining significant carbon reduction with substantial cost savings, we're helping create a more sustainable operation model for educational facilities across Georgia."
